Chitral is the largest district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This sector was once ruled by the British monarchy until 1895. The region became the incorporated district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the year 1969 and is fully independent now.
Chitral is situated at the west bank of Kunar River (also known as Chitral River). This beautiful valley attracts many tourists every year mainly because of its enriched culture. A very famous Kalash festival is celebrated here in April every year. Other attractions are Chitral Gol National Park, Tirich Mir and Karambar Lake., The best way to visit Chitral is to travel by air since road trip from Islamabad to Chitral can take up to 11 hours.
